To say that the last year has been a huge frustrating mess would be an understatement. August 2015 saw me tearing ligaments in my ankle in a race which ended my 2015 season. I couldn’t start running again until mid-October. I could not train from November 2015 to January 2016 due to another injury which meant my winter training was literally non-existent. Throw in a few sore throats and the last year has been pretty tough.
On the positive side I got a decent 10 week training block completed from January through to early May. Then in May I sustained another injury. I strained a tendon connecting my left quadricep to my patella so I haven’t done any training since. I started training again a week ago and I’m just easing myself back in at the minute. Training is fairly easy going for now and I’m trying to get plenty of strength work done to try and prevent the injury from reoccurring. I also have to juggle a 40hr week job with the RNLI around my training and rehab which is difficult as always. Thankfully my work is very supportive with my injury problems and my training regime.
If training over the next few weeks go to plan then my first race back will hopefully be the Dublin super series race. I also want to race the Pulse Port super series race at the end of September. After Dublin I’ll try and fit in as many races as possible to finish off the season on a positive note. I’ve been very lucky this year with having the support of Mcatamney’s Butchers and Coastal Core training but it’s been quite annoying not being able to get some race results to show what I am capable of and to pay them back for all their help and guidance. I can only hope that the injury stays away for the remainder of the season so I can get some races done.
I’ve just got to keep working away and hopefully luck will come my way.
